Dinner

Dinner

By May Kwek

I asked my parents
“What poem should I write today?”
My Dad replied, “Dinner”
Alas what am I to say?

Dinner is a special meal
To be eaten with family
A time to talk about the day
With old familiarity

A time to catch up on the news
We had missed during the day
A time to make up for the lonely walk
We each had through the day

So although there maybe silence
The company means much
Because it is with loved ones
Unlike colleagues at lunch

And of course it is a time to eat
And to stem the tide of hungry greed
Cause if I am hungry the only thing on my mind
Is to feed that shouting stomach of mine!
