Trying to forget

 Trying to forget

By May Kwek

The exam’s tomorrow
And as usual I am nervous to bits
I fidget, I moan, I try to forget
And finally I find a way to relax

Listening to music
Watching a movie or two
Writing my stories
Reading about God knows who

Doing a crossword
Writing a poem
Solving a puzzle
Pretending to be solemn

I do all these things and more
And though I said it is to relax
I can’t help but wonder
If I am trying to forget

Forget! Forget! Why think of it now?
Will it solve my why and my how?
Forget! Forget! I will think of it not
No I won’t it is forgot!

I will not think of it
I will listen to music now
I will forget
The time’s not right now

So yes it seems
I am trying to forget
Oh let it work!
The hours I will not regret!

Will You Trust Me?

Will You Trust Me?

By May Kwek

Sometimes life makes me want to shout
Everything becomes clouded in a fog of doubt
I cry out and say I want out
And turn and ask God what’s all this about

“Am I wrong?” he would demand
“To put you in such a place?
Can you question me?
Who created all in the first place?”

I know I cannot answer
Job said the same long ago
Yet looking all around me
I wonder why this is so

Then a quiet voice
In a gentler tone
Asks “Do you trust me?”
“Is it you can’t or you won’t?”

I looked up but can’t reply
I am afraid of what I’ll say
But I needn’t have answered
He continued anyway

“I am the Alpha and the Omega
The beginning and the end
All things were created through me
And you are in my hands”

“The Sun rises at my bidding
But it is you that I love
So don’t be afraid in the darkness
Be secure in my love”

“I try!” I cry
“But it is harder than you say
The road stretches out before me
And I do not know the way”

Then there was a silence
An awful long one still
And he suddenly spoke
As my spirit began to wilt

“The question is my child” he said
“What will you be?
Continue to be tortured by yourself
Or will you trust me?”

Dawn’s song

Dawn’s song

By May Kwek

Moon guardian I take your place
The morning approaches
It is time for me to sing my song
As the time marches

Night, night, hear my name
You know what to do, every day’s the same
Depart and with you take the stars
Quickly! The time passes fast!

Now gentle clouds with sunset blooms
Be quickly spun from heavenly looms
Dance across the fiery sky
Behind which sleeping stars lie!

Quiet ocean wake from your sleep
And let dolphins from your surface leap!
Let quick fishes in your waters dart
And feel the ocean’s beating heart

Quiet wind it is time to dance
Faster than a thrusting lance
Wake the flowers of the fields and the birds in the trees
Rise quickly morning breeze!

Now to wake the very last one
Turn Earth! Turn! To the rising sun!
Let the world hear dawn sing!
And jointly welcome the morning!

There now my song is done
I give my place to the sun
And while I slumber let my song linger on
And fill the souls with the peace of morn

Do not worry

Do not worry

By May Kwek

That which time has yet to show
Had best be left well alone
Because when it is time to know
Only then would it be known

The little seed does not dream
Of what tomorrow’s rain might bring
It simply waits it does not think
It just hopes for the coming spring

A happy fish in the ocean
Lives only in the now
And because it does not worry
Until the end it can smile

The birds soaring in the sky
Know not where they might fly
Nor what will allow them to feed
But God always fulfil their needs

As he said we are worth more than sparrows
As he has told me many a time
So trust in him and do not worry
For everything will be fine
