Happy Teacher’s Day

Happy Teacher’s Day

By May Kwek

I have had many teachers
But this poem is only about one
Someone very special
The best teacher I could want!

She was always there when I was down
And ready to cheer me up
And when in work I was threatened to drown
She gave me extra help

She never put herself first
At least not during lesson time
And when we were silly
She said she didn’t mind

She believed in me and helped me be
What I am today
So dear teacher I would just like to say
Happy Teacher’s Day!

Morning Light

Morning Light

By May Kwek

Oh the gentle morning light
Shine on this world and make it bright!
Oh let dawn with its gentle blush
Light up the world in a quick rush!

Let the colours red and gold
Colour the summer flowers
Let the cool ocean blue
Light the sea’s ivory towers

Let the green colour the fields
And the white colour the day
Let the dawn colour all life
Wherever it is they lay!

Oh let the morning light shine
Each and every day!
Let its colours freshness and dew
Last throughout the day!

The cool morning breeze
The gentleness of first light
The whispers of the tree
And birds at first flight

Let the morning last, let the morning last
Through the afternoon and into the night
Until the blush of dawn
Again signals first light!

Fighting lions

Fighting lions

By May Kwek

I once knew a man
Who everywhere he went
Had beside him a lion
Who was not his friend

When he wanted to do something
The lion would stop him
And when he tried to run
It would always chase him

He grew very tired
Of being thus ordered around
But no easy respite
In his world could be found

It was either being ordered
Or standing up to fight
Because the lion
Was actually his fright

His fear made true
And given flesh and blood
It always carried through
And put my friend in the mud

But one day my friend could take it no more
And frightened though he was
He stood up and fought the lion
And taught him that he was the law

The fight was long and hard
And he often wanted to run
But yet to give up and fear again
Was simply a can’t

Then amazingly he won
And the lion was very still
Then oddly enough grew smaller
But only a little still

Yet every time they fought
My friend found it easier
And every time he won
The lion grew still smaller

Till one day after another fight
The lion lost once more
And he shrunk until
He could be seen no more

And now my friend is quite free
To do as he likes
For fear no longer rules him
And neither does his fright

Let the sun shine!

Let the sun shine!

By May Kwek

Oh let the sun shine!
Oh let the sun shine!
Though it may be night now
Let the sun shine!

Let the sun chase the darkness away!
For I have always loved the day
Let the night quickly end!
Let the sun shine my friends!

Let us see the flowers
The birds and the sky
Let us see the clouds
And the mountains oh so high

Oh let this night not last
For I dearly love the light
Let it quickly pass
Till the dawn’s first light

For the night is dark and strange
And with it comes our fears
So let it go away
And the day quickly come near!

An old Joke

An old Joke

By May Kwek

Goodness gracious man! What happened to your face?
This is a really serious burn case!

Yes Doctor, it hurts so
This is the worst accident I’ve had you know

Well sit down and tell me how you got it
Don’t linger, tell me all about it!

I was sleeping Doctor when the phone rang
And very annoying was the song it sang
I stumbled out very tired
And instead of the phone picked up the iron

Ouch! That would explain your face
But how did you get burnt in that other place?

Well Doctor, I will cut the slack
And simply say the idiot called back
