Sounds of the night
By May Kwek
In the city day or
night
There’ll always be
sounds and bright lights
Because a city never
sleeps
Except in darkness
true and deep
On the roads a car
horns
And trains run from
night till morn
Occasionally you even
hear a bird
Woken up by some
dreadful hurt
Or there is the buzz
of moving traffic
Which is never
quietly static
Or maybe even a jet
plane
Flying through the
sky lanes
Perhaps the arguments
of a couple
Upstairs causing a
lot of trouble
Or downstairs where a
stray cat
Has gotten a dog
barking mad
No the sounds of the
night
Are not crickets,
frogs and the like
But the sounds of a
city still alive
And buzzing like a
noisy hive
