Talking to nature

Talking to nature

By May Kwek

Hello wind, are you having a good day?
Why yes how nice to see you today!

It’s been a while old friend would you sing me a song?
Yes until the day and night grow long

Hello sun! Are you having fun?
You were always a funny child young one

I rather like it at least I can hear you
Yes and feel my warm rays too

Hello my dear trees how are the skies?
Bright blue and the clouds are shy

I would fix that but how are you?
With birds in their nest could I be blue?

I suppose not but flowers I do wish to see
Child, climb up and search me

Hello flowers! You’re so pretty and pink!
Yes I am so happy I could blink!

Blink? What do you mean?
I mean to open and close in a team!

Ah now the wind is calling me what does it say?
Child you should stay in for today

Why? The day is nice and hardly plain
Child breathe deep I bring rain

Oh dear then I must go. Would you wait for me?
I am the wind and shall be by the sea

Alright then goodbye my friends!
Goodbye child we shall see you again!

Irritation

Irritation

By May Kwek

The world’s a funny funny place
Well, yes in a way

The world’s a funny funny place
You said that yesterday

The world’s a funny funny place
Are you trying to be funny?

The world’s a funny funny place
An unlikely story

The world’s a funny funny place
Are you pretending to be sad?

The world’s a funny funny place
Does my expression make you glad?

The world’s a funny funny place
Is there any peace to be had?

The world’s a funny funny place
Ok that’s it! Stop that!

(Silence)
The world’s a funny funny place

A Discovery

A Discovery

By May Kwek

It was a usual hot and sunny day
But walking by the plants was always my way
So walking by a leafy patch
A bright orange I did catch

So I took a step back
And so found what made me glad!
A tawny coster sitting among the leaves
Time for a moment seemed to cease

Each gentle twitch
Each silent movement
Seemed lovelier than all I’ve seen
In my many lessons

Its bright orange shone
Like a blazing fire
And though it stayed still
It could rise higher

But it just stayed there
Snacking on a flower
And I quickly realized
That a photo was in my power

And so I took several
Happy for a time
With butterflies and the sun
Everything shines

And the photo above you see
Is the butterfly I found
And don’t you agree with me
That it’s a glad sight when you’re down?

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay

By May Kwek

Recently I visited
The Gardens by the Bay
And honestly I feel
That I like it better during the day

I have seen the super trees
With their spider web branches
And I have seen the baskets
For the picnic lunches

The heritage gardens are splendid
And its features are quite fine
There are so many flowers
That I kept some to call mine!

There are caves in holes
And walks among the trees
Also many others things
Which I have not yet seen

At night the super trees glow
With brightly coloured specks
With very interesting colours
And I don’t know what to expect

I have yet to visit the domes
But I am sure they will be fine
In fact from the pictures
They certainly seem to shine!

So maybe I will go again
If I can find the time
And get there before
The crowd leaves me behind

When words fail

When words fail

By May Kwek

It’s odd to have words
And be unable to speak
When you feel so much emotion
And there’s something you seek

But you can’t write and you can’t sing
You simply can’t express a thing
Because it just simply feels
Like you’re in a cart without the wheels

When words fail what should I do?
To my thoughts I want to remain true
And yet when words fail what can I say?
I need to find another way

To keep my words simple
And yet explain the profound
To sing a song
Without making a sound

It is hard to write
When my words fail
But if God helps me
Perhaps I still will

So when words fail
What should I do?
But to try again
Until I finally do?

Wishing to see

Wishing to see

By May Kwek

There are things I have hardly seen
And most definitely have never been
But I really wish I would someday
If fate would put the chance my way

Such as the mountains
Majestic and tall
Against which even giants
Feel helpless and small

Or deep canyons and valleys
And shimmering waterfalls
I have perhaps seen a few
But I would like to see more

Maybe the wonders of space
In the dark night sky
And constellations I could trace
With just the gaze of my eyes

There so many things I wish to see
But I haven’t seen them yet
But until I do I will remember
That I want to and won’t forget

My 100th poem

My 100th poem

By May Kwek

Yes I have reached a hundred
And I have many more to go
But more can I write?
I really do not know

I have written about butterflies
And the deep blue sea
I have written of forests

I have talked about birds
And their beautiful songs
And I have talked about people

I have written about the stars
Dancing in the night
In the dark of the night

I have spoken about the clouds
I have written of hope

I have written so many things
What else should I write?
Perhaps I will find more inspiration
In the wind and tide
